POLAR TEAM PRO SHIRT

Early 2017 Polar introduced an entirely new wearable category to their fitness portfolio, the Polar Team Pro Shirt. Company’s first launched heart rate monitoring and GPS tracking apparel is fully-designed and developed by Polar experts, and optimised for athletes.
My role in our small project team was to design good ergonomics, fit, look and materials to the shirt with the technical textile engineer. From the manufacturing and technology point of view project and shirt itself was challenging and it required several test rounds with athletes of different sizes and from different sports. Finally we succeeded in developing a shirt, which integrates heart rate technology directly with the fabric and provides GPS.
Team Pro Shirt is a sleeveless, base-layer shirt, that replaces the need for a chest strap monitor. Sensor is placed inside the pocket on the neck, this way we guarantee that the sensor does not interfere with the athlete's performance. Wearable shirt technology integrates with the Polar Team Pro system for advanced team sports coaching. Sensors broadcast live training data to a coach’s iPad, providing athlete performance data in real-time.

THE CHALLENGE:
Original chest strap was challenging to keep in place during training and playing for the team sports, like football players & American football players.
Many monitoring systems in the market were big and heavy to move from A to B.
We wanted to solve these challenges of the use and create competitive solution.
To find solution how the common sport shirt can be turned to measure heart rate technology.
THE CHALLENGE:
Original chest strap was challenging to keep in place during training and playing for the team sports, like football players & American football players.
Many monitoring systems in the market were big and heavy to move from A to B.
We wanted to solve these challenges of the use and create competitive solution.
To find solution how the common sport shirt can be turned to measure heart rate technology.
At the end of the project we made comprehensive testing phase with the real athletics and validated following things:
Technical functionality of the shirt & the service and the accuracy of the measured data.
Ergonomic and fitting comfort of the shirts and the resistance of the laminated electrons inside the shirt.
User experience of the whole service.
OUTCOMES:
Polar Team Shirt were being used by elite-level sport teams, including the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and other groups within the NBA, NHL and MLB, because they were able to ditch heart rate straps.
